Why there is no direct flight between Southeast Asia and South America?

Nowadays aviation industry reached pre covid levels and demands for air travel are increasing day by day but have you wondered why there is no direct connectivity even when we have the most advanced aircraft and southeast Asia becoming a trade hub and also an aviation hub?

Every country is increasing its economy connecting countries with air travel making globalization of the economy and aviation back on track to its pre-level. Also, nowadays we have aircraft with long-range flying ranges such as Airbus A350 ULR, Boeing 777/787

A lot of flights connect Southeast Asia and South America but no direct flight let’s have a look.

1- Technology

as of now, we have aircraft with long-range flying that can fly more than 16 hours nonstop as of now Airbus A350 has the longest range up to 9,700 nautical miles. But if we see the distance between Asia’s busiest Airport Beijing is more than 17000kms as of now longest flight from Singapore to Newark has a flying time of more than 17 hours.as there are antipodes to each other.

why no direct flight between Southeast Asia and South America?

2- Operational reasons

Operating this long flight will have a lot of operational challenges for the airlines that will increase costs for the airlines such as in case of bad weather or headwinds fuel requirements nest will, will result in more fuel consumption that will reduce the range of aircraft or airlines need to have payload limits both will affect profits. Also, demands are very less so investing here will not provide returns.

3- South American leaf blight (SALB)-

This may be the reason for not having direct flights between Southeast Asia and South America. Still, it would be a key reason also why governments are supporting direct flight. The South American leaf blight (SALB) is a fungal disease that affects rubber plantations that destroy the rubber plantation of South America nowadays Southeast Asia is one of the largest rubber production countries. This fungus has a concise life span of around 24 hours, so if there is no direct flight, the travel time will be more than 24 hours, breaking the chain and stopping spreading in Southeast Asia. The absence of Direct Flights between Southeast Asia and South America.

These are a few reasons why there is an Absence of Direct Flights between Southeast Asia and South America and no airlines are investing in direct flights between both routes as it will be non-profitable for the airlines also there will be a lot of challenges with geography reason due to the antipode’s locations.
