Aircraft is one of the key assets to airlines and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) is an aviation term and one of the key concerns for airlines as the main earning source of airlines is from their aircraft. If the aircraft is 50%-60% occupants, then the airline comes to a breakeven point and covers its operational cost. Airworthiness is a certificated issued by the Directorate General of civil aviation stating that aircraft is fit to fly and can carry out operations in a safe manner mentioned in “Section-2” of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR)

Aircraft on Ground (AOG) Meaning

Aircraft on Ground (AOG) meaning It is a situation when aircraft is not in a situation to fly or continue it operation due to any technical problem or it is not airworthy to fly, and Aircraft maintenance engineer has asked not to use aircraft due to safety of passengers. It is a painful situation of airlines, passengers and even for logistics as it causes a delay in operation because airlines have to replace the aircraft to continue operations and usually airlines have already scheduled the upcoming routes to aircraft and if any aircraft is not airworthy to fly then it will disturb all operations as airlines need to arrange a new aircraft.

If any Aircraft has to be grounded and unable to fly, then it will create problem to the traffic and also create unhappy customers for airlines and sometime aircraft boarded with crew and passenger has to be grounded as AME declared aircraft not airworthy or not safe to fly.

Understanding Aircraft on Ground (AOG) in the Aviation Industry!

Reason Behind Aircraft on Ground (AOG)

When Airlines start using aircraft, they want to utilize it as much as possible to make revenue from it due to it in long term technical or machinal issue arises in aircraft, some issue can be fixed on the spot and aircraft can continue flying but something issues cannot repaired on the spot and had to go for Maintenance, Repair and Operations MRO center.

As per Federal Aviation Administration FAA the recommends that aircraft to me inspect every 400-600 hrs. or 6-8 months which every is earlier. As aircraft is a complex machine made up of so many small parts and making them available at the time is really a difficult task for airlines. But some running repairs such as malfunction of any part example APU, Seniors etc. above are the few Reasons Behind Aircraft on Ground (AOG).
