Recarpeting of the runway in a record time of 75 Days
Before discussing the record created by Airport lets us understand what Runway Recarpeting is
Runway Recarpeting
The Runway Recarpeting is an essential part of airport operation that allows aircraft to land and takes off. It should be important that the runway is in good condition to handle flight operations as per international standards otherwise it can cause an incident/accident at the airport.
When Runways are made, they are according to international Standards but the daily movement of flights and also the environmental condition around the runways can damage the runway as when an aircraft land during the touch down of aircraft try to hit the runway surface with a huge load that also leads to damaging the Surface of the runway.
To overcome the damage to the Runway airport authority has to do a process called Runway Recarpeting to ensure that the runway is capable of handling aircraft load to ensure safe flight operations. It should be done by taking into consideration the no of flights the airport handle and how busy the airport is.
The process of Recarpeting the Runway involves various checks to ensure that runway is capable of smooth landing and take-off of aircraft and then the top surface of the runway is repaired according to requirements in this process airport normally closes its operations for 8 hours (9am-6pm) daily and reaming time normal operations take place
Now back to the Record Created by Ahmedabad Airport
Record Created by Ahmedabad Airport, Seven Busiest airport in the country and it has only one operational runway 05/23 with a length of 3505 meters. They have achieved the milestone of completing the Recarpeting in Just 75 days and set a record of all the best among the brownfield* runways projects in India. and this is done by Adani airport Holding Limited (AAHL) by using NOTAM* (Notice to airman)
The main task in front of Airport authorities is to ensure that Flight operations do not get impacted as it is an international airport and a gateway to Gujarat and is handled approx. 200 flights per day and to Recarpet 3.5 Km long runways.
The target to complete this project is earlier set to 200 working days but the Adani group reduced the target time to 90 days to reduce the inconvenience to passengers by increasing the resources and manpower, but the project was completed in 75 days.
during the checkup, the Adani airport holding found that the quality of the runaway and drainage system at Ahmedabad airport is not according to standardized
The whole recarpeting of the runway is equivalent to a 200 km stretch of road in addition to that airfield lighting system of runways and also of taxiways* has been upgraded which is equal to the lighting of 12-14 villages
The team of 600 people make this possible and restored all operations in just 75 days
