A new update in airline security in India: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has relaxed its rules regarding airline security, allowing airport operators also to provide security services for international airlines.
Currently, the Indian airline security market is dominated by a duopoly of Air India and SpiceJet. After the closure of Jet Airways, SpiceJet has significantly increased its market share. Airline security involves various checks, including secondary security checks, which are commonly seen on direct flights to the USA before boarding. These checks are not limited to that and also include overseeing baggage loading, aircraft checks, and other security-related functions.
GMR, the operator of Delhi and Hyderabad airports, has also shown interest and is in discussions with international airlines about providing these security services.
This is an Important Step in Aviation Security in India.
