The J2 Flight 8243, operated on an Embraer e190 (4K-AZ65), is an 11-year-old aircraft mostly used for short-haul flights. It has a passenger carry capacity of 106 passengers.
The flight took off from Baku at 0755 hrs local time of Baku as per plan and went towards the Grozny airport where as per the flight plan it was supposed to arrive there by 0820 hrs local time of Grozny airport. While handling the Russian aerospace aircraft, it faced GPS jamming which is common while entering Russian airspace to encounter this problem, the checklist was to get over GPS jamming for safe operations.
The flight had to divert to the nearest airport because of bad weather conditions at Grozny airport and the alternative airport also faced bad weather conditions so the aircraft also struggled to land there so they went towards Kazakhstan. During this time Crew Changed the Squawking code to 7700 which means an emergency and reported that their control system had some failure.
At around 1028 local time right wings hit the ground aircraft caught fire and was exposed as the fuel storage tank was in the wings and the aircraft was damaged.
